About
the Designer I
started sewing when I was about 10 years old and always enjoyed the
sewing segment of home economics class in school.
I was always interested in the needle arts and crafting such as
knitting, crocheting, crewel embroidery, macrame' and cross-stitching.
I made a lot of my daughter's clothes when she was little as well
as some of my own as did my mother when my sister's and I were growing
up. But it wasn't until the mid 80's that I began quilting.
I figured I'd been sewing for a number of years already... this
shouldn't be too difficult to do. I
learned to quilt the traditional way by hand piecing and hand quilting
all of my quilts. Every
piece was cut with a pair of scissors as rotary cutters weren't around
yet, at least not where I lived which was in Northern Maine. A few years
later, I was introduced to hand applique.
I soon developed a passion for it and that passion is still going
strong today some twenty years later.
Working in the corporate American world for 25 years left me very
little time to quilt other than for pleasure and relaxation.
In the spring of 2003, I left that corporate American world
behind and embarked on a journey into the world of longarm machine
quilting which ultimately led me to designing.
In addition, I also teach all aspects of quilting from hand
piecing, hand quilting, hand applique, penny wool applique & machine
piecing. I
own and operate a successful longarm machine quilting business.
In the spring of 2006, I published a book called Hodge Podge...A
Unique Style to Free Motion Quilting.
In addition, I've also put out five pantographs for longarm and
midarm machines, two of which are my Hodge Podge design in two different
sizes. And I'm now a
Gammill dealer sales rep for the state of Maine as well as a Longarm
Training Center. I
love designing quilts and working with the wonderful colors and prints
that are on the market today, but I also like using some of the older
fabrics that are no longer available.
I generally like to blend a little bit of old with a little bit
of new, much like the concept of my designing.
I find it makes for an interesting and beautiful quilt.
One thing I really enjoy doing is creating quilt designs using
crazy patch piecing. I love
seeing my stacks of scraps dwindle and it's totally amazing what comes
out of sewing a bunch of scraps together in a Hodge Podge fashion. I hope you have as much fun making the patterns as I did designing them. We have a growing selection of holiday & fall quilt patterns along with everyday quilt patterns.
